Extended Clubnotes Apr 1st 2008
Seniors lost in the Cup to Fingal Ravens (1-9,0-16). Injuries and absences left only 15 fit players for this clash.. Many players did well, despite playing out of position. A lack of concentration towards the end of the 1st half was the main reason for the half time deficit (0-4,0-6). Ravens scored the first few points of the 2nd half, before Clontarf tagged it back to a 1 pt game.Ravens upped the pace in the final quarter to run out 4 point winners. Best for Clontarf were Aidan Morrissey, Karl Spelman, Rossa O'Brien, Shane Barret and Conor Glavey. Special mention to Ger Carey on a fine Senior debut at full back.
St. Annes Park - The PRO/Finance sub committees are in the final stages of securing a first of it's kind Corporate sponsorship deal with a US Multinational that will see our all weather floodlit facitities re-open in early May under the name 'Bebo Park'. Full details will be announced next week.
Junior A's drew in the Cup with St. Sylvesters (0-7,1-4), in a game in which both teams worked hard but failed to converted many scoring chances. Best wishes to Alan Lynch for a speed recovery from a shoulder injury.
Junior B's produced a sparking performance to defeat St. Oliver Plunketts (2-11,2-3) in the Stacey Cup. Graham Johnson was in superb form again, as were Morgan O'Halloran and Mickey McGlinchey. Clontarf led at the interval (1-6,1-3).
Adult Hurling – League Division 5, Clontarf 0-7, Cuala 1-8.
Ladies Inter and Junior team commence competition on Wed.
Minors – Minor A' lost to Erin's Isle, while Minor B's put up a great display in losing to Na Fianna by 4pts, having led by 10pts at one stage. A. Donnelly (3 goals) and E. Duffy played well.
Under 15 Football – U15A team had a fantastic win away to Round Towers. Best were Niall Dunleavy, Ryan Lattin, Ross O'Hanlon and Joe O'Grady.
U15B team had a narrow defeat against St. Oliver Plunketts (10-8,8-6). This was a very close contest in which Clontarf conceded 3 late goals, but credit to the 12 of the players who were playing their 2nd match of the day. Best for Clontarf were David Kilbridge, Darragh Frewen, Garbhan Doyle and Kevin McLean.
Under 13 Football – U13A's lost to Ballyboden in Div 1 (7-5,2-6). A wet pitch did not help a lighter Clontarf side who fought to the finish. Notable performances by Conor Mullins indefence and Ross McCullagh in attack.
U13B's lost away to Lucan Sarsfields (5-6,3-9). Despite the loss, this was a stering performance by Clontarf in very difficult conditions. Home advantage had to be conceded due to the closure of pitch 21. Man of the match was Phelim Neenan for a great and valiant performance in goal, in the absence of the regular keeper.
Under 14 Hurling - Clontarf lost in Div 6 of the Feile on a scoreline of Cluain Tarbh 4-2 St,. Sylvesters 5-5. Clontarf played really well and Sylvesters were flattered to win by 1-3. The whole team gave 100%
U10 Hurlers – no game this weekend, but special mention for David Joyce, Cormac Moloughney and Ryan Sweeney who are all working exceptionally hard on their skills.
Another excellent Easter Camp concluded on Friday, thanks to GPO Neil O'Driscol and all his helpers for a great job.
Best wishes to Noel Hickey for a speedy recovery.
