Clontarf GAA Club Notes 8th January 2008

A very happy New Year to all club members.Many thanks to all those who participated in and helped organise the Adult 7 a side blitz for charity on Dec 28th. All proceeds will assist 5 of our Minor team  who will be travelling to Zambia on charity work with their school (St. Fintans Sutton). Adult memberships are now due, latest form available on our website. Dinner dance date is Feb 23rd, contact Patricia Reynolds (087-2337534) for bookings. U16 footballers lost in a challenge game to St. Annes. Adult Player of the Year awards will take place in the clubhouse this Sat. 12th at 7:30pm, all are welcome to attend. Well done to all the winners at the Adult Games awards night on Sat. and many thanks to Pillar Caffrey for taking the time to present the awards. Dara O'Brien was awarded Senior Player of the Year. U21 Championship quarter final V Peregrines on Sat Jan 26th at 2:30pm in Blakestown, all support welcome. Ladies Junior team training every Mon in club gym at 7:15pm, new players always welcome. Chairman's night for all club mentors on Sat Jan 26th at 8pm in the clubhouse. Michael Duigan ex Offaly Hurler and RTE match analyst is the guest speaker. Condolences to our U14 Ladies mentor Alan McClean on the passing of his Mother at the weekend. Many thanks to Offaly hurling star Michael Duignan for a very intresting and entertaining talk at the Chairmans night on Sat.The Adult Mentor of the Year award went to Minor mentors Shay McCaffrey and Mick Arthur, while the Juvenile award went to U12 Football Mentors Brian McCullagh and Ger Craddock. Mentor wanted for Junior C Football team, contact Mick Cronin (086-2533186) or any Executive member.Ladies Intermediate footballers resume training this week, Monday and Friday. Deepest Condolences to the family and friends of Ronan O'Donovan who passed away last week. Adult Hurling training starts back on Mon 11th at Total Fitness (7:45pm). Under 16 Footballers lost to St. Pats(P) (1-7,5-2). U15 matches fell victim to the weather. Ladies training continues Mon and Fri. Clontarf GAA Club Notes 12th February 2008

U16's lost to St. Marks (3-8,7-9). U15's lost to St. Brigids in a very entertaining and hard fought game. Ladies training continues on Mon and Wed and spinning on Fri. U11's had a good cup win V Ballymun. An information night on Sudden Cardiac Death will take place on Feb 18th in Parnell Pk at 8pm, all welcome, admission free. www.clontarfgaa.com

Clontarf GAA Club Notes 19th February 2008

Team of the Week are the U13 A Footballers who had a thrilling 1 pt win over Na Fianna in Div 1 (4-6,4-5). A disappointing start to the Adult season with all 3 football teams losing their cup games away from home. Seniors lost to Whitehall (1-10,0-10). Scorers were: Shane McIntyre (0-5), Aidan Morrissey, Shane Barrett (0-2), Karl Spellman (0-1). Half time score was (0-6,0-6). Clontarf started stong but were hesitant and wasteful in front of goal. A fortunate Whitehall goal in the final 5 mins sealed the victory for the home side. Junior A's lost to Skerries (0-10,0-4) and B's lost to Erins Isle (2-12,1-8). Minors were narrowly defeated by Raheny in an exciting contest (2-9,3-3). Despite being reduced to 14 men, Clontarf fought back from a 9pt defecit to draw level but then conceded a last min goal. Adult hurlers continue to train Mon and Wed. U11's notched their 5th consecutive win defeating Plunketts in the cup. U16's lost to whitehall (0-8,1-9). Great wins for the U12's A (over donamore) and B (over Na Fianna) teams in the cup. Congrats to Denis McIntyre and Claire Curtin who were married last Thur and belated wedding congrats to Johnny Murphy. Congrats also to Redmond & Mairead O'Leary on the birth of their baby girl. Clontarf GAA Club Notes 26th February 2008

Well done to St. Vincents on reaching the All-Ireland Club Final, best of luck on St. Patricks Day. Annual Dinner Dance at Clontarf Castle had a record attendance, many thanks to Patricia Reynolds and Sue Lillis for the organization , (pictures on website). A very deserving Ollie Managan was awarded Clubman of the Year. Thanks also to Danny O'Connor, Gerldine Doyle and Frank Glesson for attending the dinner dance. Seniors lost in the cup to O'Tooles (1-4,0-13), best were John O'Halloran, Aidan Morrissey, Darren Lambart and Ger Ryan. Minor Hurlers drew with Na Fianna in the season opener.U16's lost to St. Maurs (2-7,0-6). U14 A's lost to a strong Castleknock in the Feile, best were Maitias McDonagh, Robert Reynolds and Niall Terry. Adult Football leagues started with wins for the Junior A's and B's, while Seniors earned a draw V St. Brigids (2-8,2-8). New Junior C team lost narrowly to Starlights (2-7,2-8).U15A's had a great win V Naomh Barrog, best were Mark Plunkett, Brian Forde, Eoin Hickey and Jack McCaffrey. U13A's won their final grading match V St. Brigids and will now compete in Div 1 of the all-county league. 2 goals by Mark Glennon in the 2nd half swung the game for Clontarf. U11 hurlers had a comfortable victory over Whitehall., while U10's lost to Na Fianna despite great contributions from Sean O'Shea, Donal O'Dwyer and Liam Howley.Easter Camp details and application form available on website.Ladies presentaion night was a big success, thanks to Dara Terry and Dublin's Cliondha O Connor. Team of the week are the U14 Hurlers who recorded a fine win over St. Marks (1-10,0-3) in the 1st round of the Feile. Seniors lost in the cup to Parnells (1-9,0-9), but this was a positive committed performance. Junior A's lost in the cup to Fingal Ravens (0-5,1-5), Junior B game was off. Both Minor matches were off, training continues every Wed, 7:30 on Astro. U16 hurling V Olafs called off. U13 hurling V Setanta called off. U11's lost in a thrilling friendly game V St. Vincents. Well done to our 3 representatives at the Dublin U12 Easter Tournament, Conor McGinn, Daniel Scully and Diarmuid O'hUallacain. Full round of Adult Cup Football next weekend, while Junior hurlers play Cuala in the league.U16's drew with Castleknock in the 1st round of the Feile. Congratulations to St. Vincents on their magnificent achievement of winning the All Ireland Club Championship. A depleted Senior Team lost in the cup to Fingal Ravens (1-9,0-16). Best for Clontarf were A.Morrissey, K.Spelman, R.O’Brien, S.Barret,C.Glavey and Ger Carey for  a fine Senior debut at full back. Junior B’s produced a sparking performance to defeat St. Oliver Plunketts (2-11,2-3) in the Cup. Graham Johnson was in superb form again, as were Morgan O’Halloran and Mickey McGlinchey. Adult Hurlers lost in the league to Cuala (0-7,1-8). Under 15 – U15A team had a fantastic win away to Round Towers. Best were Niall Dunleavy, Ryan Lattin, Ross O’Hanlon and Joe O’Grady. U15B’s lost narrowly to Plunketts, best were David Kilbridge, Darragh Frewen, Garbhan Doyle and Kevin McLean. Another excellent Easter Camp concluded on Friday, thanks to GPO Neil O’Driscol and all his helpers for a great job.Best wishes to Alan Lynch and Noel Hickey for speedy recoveries. www.clontarfgaa.com

Seniors drew with Fingal Ravens in the league (1-7,1-7). Junior A and B teams remain unbeaten in the league with impressive wins over St. Finnians and Raheny. Junior C's lost to O'Dwyers. Team of the week are the Under 11 Footballers who defeated St. Vincents midweek and then had a hard fought win over Raheny in the Cup quarter final - thanks to 2 goals from Barry Davis and great performances from Kevin Mangan and Fiach Beechinor. U12 A's qualified for Cup semi-final with an impressive win over Castleknock (4-7,0-7) and great displays from Gavin Daly, Jordan Mulvany and Cian O'Flaherty. Ladies season kicked off with a loss for the Inters and a win for the Juniors over Craobh Ciaran (1-0,2-9). Under 11 and 13 girls had winning starts to the season, while U10 and U12 girls performed well. Condolences to Anne Reid on the passing of her Mother. Team of the week are the U16 Footballers who produced a magnificant Championship performance to defeat Castleknock (2-15,3-3) in Round 1. This was a fantastic never say die team performance led by inspirational captain Daragh Golden with Stephen Reynolds, Conor Cronin, Keith Talbot, Jack McCaffrey and Aidan O'Donohoe also excelling. Adult Hurlers defeat St. Kevins (1-14,1-6), best were John Devine and Eoin O’Grady. Full round of midweek Adult football league games this week. U15A Footballers had a fine win over Cuala. U12 Hurlers had an excellent away win over St. Brigids (3-4,1-2), with great performances from Jack Clarke and Sean Giles. U10 Hurlers had a narrow win over Cuala. Ladies Inters had a great opening league win over Kilmacud (1-8,1-5). U16’s drew with Naomh Mearnog. Team of the week are the Girls U13 Footballers who produced a great team display to defeat Scoil Ui Chonaill (3-12,2-10), in a thrilling derby encounter. In Adult league action, Seniors drew with O’Tooles and lost narrowly to Kilmacud (2-10,2-9). Junior A and B teams remain unbeaten with league wins over Naomh Barrog and O’Dwyers. Junior C’s lost to Fingal Ravens, with Ian Sunderland excellent. Minor hurlers lost an exciting game to Erins Isle. U16 hurlers had a great 3-7 to 3-6 win against Skerries. U15 hurlers were narrowly defeated by Clan na Gael in a good game in poor conditions. The scoreline was 5-01 to 2-07. best for Clontarf were Joey O Grady and Leo Farrelley. U13 hurlers had a fine away win over Commercials, thanks to 2 great goals from Sean Mc Cullagh. Adult hurlers defeated St. Maurs (1-4,2-8) in the Doyle Cup, best were Jer Shine and Eoin O'Grady. U16 footballers beaten by Crumlin in Championship quarter final (5-6,2-12). Team of the week are the U15A's
who had a good win away to Ballyboden, with a battling team performance. Best were Ross O'Hanlon in goals who kept a clean sheet. Also Niall Dunleavy, Jack McCaffrey, Robert Reynolds, Robert Forrest and Mark Plunkett. Ladies Inter lost narrowly to Lucan in the league, despite a good performance.Ladies Juniors had a big win over
Ballyboughal, with top scorer full forward Amy Farrell (3-2), while others to perform well were Miriam Foley, Grainne Free, Ciara Carville and Fiona McGinn. Minor Footballers lost to Ballymun, but put up a good performance, with Shane Doyle outstanding at midfield. Well done to both U10 hurling teams who won and lost against Kilmacud in best displays of the season. Congratulations to Brenda (Murray) and Ian on the birth of baby Georgia. Senior Footballers play St. Brigids in the 1st round of the Championship on Tue 5th at 8:15pm in Parnell Pk, all support welcome.All 3 Junior teams travel away for Championship action on Sunday. A’s play Garda at 11am, B’s travel to Peregines for 3pm and C’s travel to Man O’War or Parnells. Adult Hurlers lost a close encounter in the league to Crumlin (1-10,3-09), not helped by the loss of the Devine brothers and the injured Peadar Hickey, best wishes for a speedy recovery to Ger Devine. Minor Hurlers beat Scoil Ui Chonaill in the league (0-15, 1-5). John Maguire and Cormac Golden were excellent in defence, while Eoin Cronin led the way in scoring with a superb 10pts. U15A team had a very good win away V St. Brigids, with a strong collective team performance and great work rate. Best for Clontarf were Mark Hughes, Ryan Lattin and Mark Plunkett. Congrats to Niall Terry, Ronan McDyer, Maitias, McDonagh and Robert Diffley for making the Dublin North U14 hurling panel. Intermediates had a good win away to Thomas Davis (2-1,3-4) in the league. Fine performances from Siobhan Kennedy, Carrie O’Connor, Caroline O’Connell and Sarah McGrath. Ladies Juniors had another fine win, over St. James Gael. Seniors drew with Templeogue SS (2-5,1-8) in the first game on our new pitches, thanks to all who came out to inspect and support. Seniors lost in Championship to St. Brigids in midweek. A great weekend for Junior Football with all 3 teams playing Championship. A’s defeated Garda, B’s defeated Peregrines (2-9,0-9), thanks to goals from Graham Johnson and Johnny O’Connell. C’s drew with Parnells (0-10,0-10) thanks to a last min converted 45 by Ian Sunderland. Also great displays from Shane Doyle and Kevin McGrath. Ladies commence Championship this week.U13 Hurlers had a big win over Lucan.U12B’s lost to Naomh Mearnog (4-0,3-11), best for Clontarf were Mathew Kennedy in goals and Tieghernan O’Connor. U12C’s had a good win over St. Monicas (5-4,2-9), with great performances from Jack Loftus and Conor Smyth. U11 footballers beat skerries in Div 1, with Barry Davis excellent. U9A’s  had a great win over Fingallians, best Shane Walsh, John O’Doherty and Mark Quinn. B’s had a great win over Fingal Ravens, best were Oisin Gillian and Gregory Walls.U16 girls defeated Cuala (4-10, 5-8) in a closely run match, with Jill Taylor outstanding. Thanks to Sarah McCaffrey, Fiona Mulhall and Laura Plunkett for helping out. Great wins for U12 girls (away to Maurs) and U10’s over Raheny.
