ST VINCENT’S 0-14 CLONTARF 0-6

Dublin’s top-scoring forward Tomas Quinn resumed normal services when he kicked eight points as the Vins progressed to meet Trinity Gaels in the second round of the Dublin SFC at Parnell Park on Thursday night.

Quinn slotted five points in the opening half, including four frees, as the Marino men led 0-7 to 0-2 at the break.

Vincent’s should have led by more but failed to translate possession into scores while Clontarf goalkeeper Rossa O’Brien did very well to deny Gerry Beirne a goal in the sixth minute when making a double save.
Clontarf were reduced to 14 men in the 49th minute when Kevin Devine was sent off while St Vincent’s midfielder Brendan Manning followed six minutes later.

FINGALLIANS 0-15 CLONTARF 1-6

The seniors 2005 season ended in disappointment in Islandbridge as a rampant Fingallians 2nd half performance saw them comfortable winners in the end. The was certainly a game of two halves as Clontarf turned in a 5 point lead at the interval (0-4,1-6).

Kevin Leahy opened Clontarf's account with a fabulous long range effort after 5 mins and he quickly followed up with 2 well taken frees, while at the other end Damien Fennelly and Brian Stokes mopped up everything that came their way.Mid way through the half Paddy Curran drove long into Shane Dunlea, who passed onto Cathal Carr and his neat flick to the net left Clontarf (1-3, 0-2) up. Kevin Leahy added another free,before Shane Dunlea again found Cathal Carr and his left foot effort sailed over the bar. The score of the half fell to Paddy Curran who raced onto a Fingallians line ball, played a one two with Shane Dunlea before shooting a fabulous score from distance. Half time score Clontarf 1-6, Fingallians 0-4 and plans for Chrimbo shopping were looking dodgey for another weekend. 

Clontarf stared the 2nd half with a decent lead, a slight breeze, but without their influentail centre back Brian Stokes who departed with an injured shoulder and what a telling factor that was to be. Fingallians started the half in a different mood and slowly hauled in the Clontarf lead. Two frees within the first 6 mins saw the Tarf lead down to 3. Not even a Fingallians penalty miss on the 4th minute could lift Clontarf, who failed time and time again to deliver past the Fingallians 1/2 back line.  The dominance of the Fingallians play in the 2nd half was clear from the fact that Clontarf has a mere 3 scoring chances that were all missed, 2 frees from Leahy on the 16th and 20th minute and a shot from play from Cathal Carr near the end. As Clontarf pushed hard in the closing minutes, it was Fingallians that continued to find the range as they ran out winners on a scoreline of 0-15,1-6.

Well done to the entire squad and management for all their efforts in 2005. While we failed again at the same stage as 2004, progress was definetly made. Injuries and the drooping of points to teams at the low end of the division were set backs that can be rectified. 2 seasons now spent queuing to get to the top flight of Dublin football, 2006 will hopefully be the year we get the call up.
