Man O'War was the name given to the most famous thoroughbred racehorse in American history. During his career he won a remarkable 21 of 22 races. The opposition on this night could lay claims to a similar W-L league record over recent seasons.  With a win and a loss so far, Clontarf fielded a strong lineup for the visit of Man O'War, despite the absence 2 key regulars, midfielder Feargal Lynch and Brian Keenan up front. The opening 15 mins were a close affair with both teams notching 2 points each and neither defence yielding much space. Midway through the 1st half that Clontarf upped the tempo and produced some terrific football. Ro Kenny and in particular John O'Halloran were at heart of the Clontarf onslaught, setting up several attacks. 2 great points from play from Shane Kennedy and a fine score from Kevin McGrath edged Clontarf ahead. The crucial score of the 1st half for the home side was credited to Graham Johnson. His goal bound shot was misjudged by the Man O'War keeper and dropped into the net. Clontarf were now 5 up and in a commanding position. Despite the presence of a strong Man O'War midfield, Kevin McGrath was having a storming game. With 5 mins left to the break, diaster struck for the home side, with the consession of a soft goal. Man O'War spirits were lifted and the Clontarf lead was down to 2 pts (1-5,1-3)

The 2nd half saw a far more dominant Man O'War outfit. They displayed the qualities of a team that has only lost a handfull of games during their climb through the ranks of Junior Football in recent years. If the consession of the goal before half time was a blow, then the loss of Kevin McGrath at the start of the 2nd half was one the homeside never recovered from. Man O'War midfield took over and the scores followed soon after - 7 points from play and 2 long range frees. For their part Clontarf managed just 2 scores from placed balls and 3 wides. A disappointing result from a 1st half that gave hope for a inspired home win. Next up a rematch of the 1st game of the year V Plunketts. If Clontarf can reproduced and maintain the form they produced in the 1st half, they will be a serious match for any opposition.
