The Clontarf Senior Adult hurlers bowed out of the championship after a hard-fought quarter final battle away to Cuala last Saturday.
There’s nothing too unusual about this narrowest of defeats until a few more facts are revealed.
A few short years ago Clontarf’s top hurling team was plying its trade in the Junior B championship, through the hard work of many coaches over the years, from our nursery all the way up, our adult hurlers competed in the County Senior B championship for the first time this year.
The average age of the outfield starting players in this game was 20.71 years, that’s not a misprint, that’s a number less than twenty-one alright!
This team exited the championship with a steely defensive unit contributing to still having an overall positive point difference intact for all games played and a forward unit who created sufficient goal chances to have won every game.
While the average age of a team is not a direct indicator as to its future success, without doubt the future of Cluain Tarbh hurling looks bright and the message needs to go out to all our juvenile hurlers that our adult teams are ready and waiting for you, your age is irrelevant, your skills and your attitude is!
