Clontarf’s own Conor McGinn (senior hurler) and Declan Monaghan (senior footballer) are part of a team organising a fundraising event which will take place on Saturday, February 20. We are asking you and your teams to get behind them. The event involves a physical challenge and is called “Gimme1000.”
Participants will be challenged to complete 1,000 reps of any exercise of their choice within 24 hours, in aid of Pieta House and The Irish Cancer Society. Some exercise examples include push ups, squats, burpees and lunges. However, we are encouraging everyone to get creative and choose to give their own unique 1,000. Some teams are coming together to complete a combined distance of 1000km over the 24 hours, some are getting together on Zoom, selecting 10 exercises and completing 100 reps of each.
Remember, the 1,000 is a rep of any exercise you want, so our #EveryStepCounts challengers can join in too - 5m x 1000, 10m x 1,000, 20m x 1,000 or as far as you like! We've just crossed the 50,000km mark on that challenge, but we're still 1,000km behind the leaders - let's get after it! The past year has been tough on all of us, not least on the fundraising efforts of two incredible charities in The Irish Cancer Society and Pieta House. These two organizations have touched all our lives and the tireless, daily work they do has lasting effects on people’s lives across the country.
Unfortunately, due to ever present COVID restrictions, they both have been unable to run their respective flagship events, Daffodil Day & Darkness into Light, for the second year in a row. These two events are a vital source of funds to keep the essential service that they provide up and running.
Now more than ever it is important to stay active and look after our physical and mental wellbeing. We hope that you and your teams will join us in this great initiative to get active whilst raising much needed funds for two truly great causes.
Last year they raised €55,000. This year, please join them in their efforts to get 1,000 people to complete 1,000,000 reps and raise €100,000!
