Under 16 Ladies Division 2 Shield Final (2006), 4th Feb 2007
Clontarf 1-7, Clann Mhuire 4-7 [ Half Time: 0-3, 0-5 ]
At the fourth attempt the final of the Under 16 Ladies 2006 Division 2 Shield Final Between Clontarf and Clann Mhuire was played in Santry Starlights on Sunday. The early morning fog had thankfully lifted at the time of throw in on what remained a cold, overcast but windless day. Playing up the hill Clann Mhuire settled early and had a four point lead before Clontarf got on the scoreboard with a point from Ruth Reynolds. This was followed with a period of good pressure from Clontarf which saw further points added by Sarah Murphy and Ciara Dunleavy. A well taken 45 from Ciara Carville put Julie Warnock through on goal and while she steered her kick wide of the excellent Clann Mhuire keeper she was unlucky to see it hit the post and come back into play to be cleared. This incident was replayed in the next phase of play only on this occasion to see the keeper save well. Before halftime Cann Mhuire added a further point to leave the score stand at Clontarf 0-3 Clann Mhuire 0-5.
With only a two point gap and playing with the hill it looked like Clontarf would be in a strong position in the second half. However this was not to be the case and as with the first half Clann Mhuire were first off the blocks adding a point to their halftime total. This was followed quickly by a goal that left Clontarf adrift by six points. Points from Sarah Murphy and Iseult Cremen gave us some hope but a couple of defensive lapses which were punished with further Clann Mhuire goals left Clontarf chasing an increasingly elusive target. Nevertheless the girls battled until the end and added points through Sarah Murphy and Ciara Dunleavy and saw a number of efforts fall short to the keeper before substitute Niamh McNally was able to beat the otherwise excellent Mhuire keeper with a well taken goal from a move on the left.
