The second adult football team in the club competed in Division 6(jnr.2 old league) and secured sufficient points to maintain their divisional status. Our league campaign would probably be best described as moderately successful but nonetheless very enjoyable.
In the Championship Clontarf overcame a spirited Erin's Isle team in the first round. Unfortunately, our spirit skill and speed was not enough to overcome a physically stronger Garda team. Better luck next time.
On behalf of my fellow mentors Matt Whelan Snr., Alan Costello and myself, I wish to thank the Junior 2 squad for their efforts and interest over the season. In addition, I would also like to thank the senior, Junior 9, Minor and hurling mentors for their cooperation and courtesy at all times during the season.
If this squad of players needs a factor of motivation for the coming season then consider the promotional play-offs taking place this Sunday between B.'teer St Johns v.Plunketts and F.Raven v. O'Tooles. B St J narrowly beat us by a point, beat Plunketts by 6 points, lost to F.R by 8 points (an off day) an we beat O'T by 1 point. St Monicas, the league winners, were lucky to beat us by 2 points. So,we're not far off the pace, we have the players and with TOTAL commitment from ALL squad members promotion to Div.5 is a very realistic and obtainable target.
