Welcome to the 2005 Girls page. This will be updated regularly regarding general information regarding the group. It will also act as a notice board for any information that is relevant to the group.

News

Training times are as follows: (Currently on hold due to Covid-19)

Tuesday: Camogie training - 7:15pm - 8:30pm  Clubhouse Astro

Wednesday: Football training - 6:45pm - 8:00pm DCC Allweather, Alfie Byrne Rd

There are currently no matches scheduled due to the Covid-19 Pandemic. When matches are scheduled they will be put up here.

 

Skills/Drills at home

Football Skills:

Practice these skills a few times a week.

Ideally, alternate with Camogie Skills on a daily basis

A ball, any kind or size will do!!!

All, except for solos, can be done against a wall or you can try them in the park with another person, keeping to the social distancing guidelines.

Camogie Drills

It’s essential to be practicing camogie until we get back together, otherwise you’ll get VERY rusty VERY soon. This only requires around 23 mins of your free time (everyday if possible and you have plenty of that these days!) You’ll be surprised how quickly you can improve:

Find a wall:

Drill1: 5 mins striking on left hand side (try to catch rebound - a nice strong strike will help here)

Drill2: Bat/scoop ball off stick onto wall (in continuous motion) 5 x 1 min drills  – keep a record of your highest score (how many bats you achieve ) and try to beat it next time

Drill 3 Hand pass into wall and catch rebound, 5 x 1 minute drills - keep a record of your highest score and try to beat it next time

Drill 4: 5 mins striking on right hand side  (try to catch rebound - a nice strong strike will help here).

Drill 5: Throw ball off wall for high catch (3 mins). Hurl behind hand for protection!

 

If you don’t have a lot of space in garden you can still do Drills 2, 3 (left and then right hand) and 5 and add the ones from below:

  • 5 mins “Keepy upy” – Flick ball off one side of boss and then the other. How many flicks can you get without dropping the ball? Try to beat your last score each time. 
  • 3 mins Flick ball up and bring hurl up and over and then under the ball before ball drops back onto boss. How many can you do without dropping the ball.

 

TIPS:

If you don’t have a sliotar just use a tennis ball (but sliotar is best)!

Remember that when striking off your weak side that a batting action is fine – it doesn’t have to be a full length strike.

If you find that a drill is getting too easy, put yourself under pressure by speeding it up. See how many mistakes you’ll make!

We require at least one female guardian to be present at all training sessions and matches. Please text David O'Neill (087 287 2115) if you can help out. Please note that you will not be expected to carry out any coaching duties, if you do not want to.
